This was quite a challenging project, with a three week time limit!

The shockwave in shot 1 was done by emitting particles along an expanding circle. A motion vector pass was then rendered and the motion blur applied in Nuke was cranked way up to give a more halo effect, combined with several glows nodes!

The breaking ice was simmed as an RBD with a growing activation area, to let the ice break along her arm and torso. 

Mist was emitted where the rbd pieces broke apart from each other (much like emitting dust from destruction sims).

Finally, the frost was a time-shifted (reversed) particle growth sim with some "curved velocity" to give a swirling shape.

This piece was simmed in Houdini and Comped in Nuke.
